About CIPAD

The Center for Indigenous Peoples Autonomy and Development (CIPAD), located on Nicaragua’s culturally and environmentally rich North Atlantic Coast, works to eradicate prejudice; bridge racial divides; and provide cultural, artistic and economic opportunities for local youth and adults. CIPAD's programs aim to promote cultural revitalization on the coast by supporting local artistic talent and encouraging widespread appreciation of the breadth of Miskito culture.

In CIPAD’s museum and educational center, we offer art and music classes, human rights trainings, television and documentary production, and children’s recreational and skills-building programs for local Indigenous and Afro-descent communities. CIPAD also runs the Casa Museo guest house and Liwa Mairin Beach-front Hotel and Convention Center, which provide reliable financial support for CIPAD projects, while also contributing to the development of a sustainable, socially-equitable tourism on the coast.
